Hey boys. This is a great idea. I'll post some comments from my last couple of races tonight. I'll also post a list of some races or events you might be interested in

My Saturday plan is for a couple of hours on the road in the AM and then taking Tanner out to 5 Mile Pass for a MTB ride in the afternoon. He is thinking of doing the MTB race on May 5th at 5 Mile. Anyone up for some dirt?

I will see if I can add different profiles, but I don't think so.

Sutt we could put them on the opening page, but can't put the profiles in the profile section. Let me know if you want to put your picture and profile on the opening page. Just email me your picture and what you want it to say.

All you have to do is go to www.blogger.com and create your own. It is very easy! It took me about 5 minutes to set up this blog.

Boys as you all can see from the E-mail from lotoja we need to get registered. We know Daren is out but for the rest of us we want to register as cat 5's and have our team Special K in the same group. We better do it soon or we are going to get left out. Love kiss's Doug

Hey guys. Did lots of climbing today and I'm feeling it. Raced the crit on Tuesday. The regular course on the drag strip was wet, so we raced in the 3/8 mile oval. The oval is kind of fun and kind of scary. It is very fast with the blanked corners and there is no let-up anywhere. No costing at all. I wasn't feeling great and didn't make it to the front much. Mostly, just tried to not get dropped. Even with the pace pretty slow the 1st couple of laps, we averaged just under 27 mph for the race. (As an aside, in the 1st stage of the Tour of Georgia, they averaged something like 28 or 29 for 120 + miles. I don't know how that's possible.) I missed the chance to help our fast guy, Eric Rasumussen, in the last 3 laps by not paying attention. I'm still learning the game.

Last Saturday, I did a team triathlon. I did the mountain bike segment. Our team (a couple of guys I work with) did OK and ended up 2nd. Our swimmer lost it for us. It was cold and raining and the trails were a muddy mess. My new MTB is definately broken in now. It was pretty short, I was under 29 minutes, but very hard with the mud. I had the 3rd fastest bike segment overall, 20 seconds behind the fastest. Marty Jamison of Postal and Tour de France fame, was 10 seconds faster. He did the team event as well but didn't look like he took it too seriously.

This coming week is a big race week. I'm doing the crit on Tuesday, the Time Trial on Thursday (I'm going to try one for the first time) and the East Canyon Road Race on Saturday. Should be interesting. The East Canyon race is 60 miles up where we have all ridden (you too Robby). Hopefully, I'll have a good climbing day and won't get dropped on the first climb.

If the TT test goes OK on Thursday, I'll probably do the State TT on May 12th. It is 25 miles out on the South end of Utah lake near Elberta. It is the last piece of road going south on the ULCER ride. I've always wanted to try one this distance and attempt to break an hour.

In two weeks, I'm doing the Intermountain Cup MTB race at 5-mile pass. My plan this year is to do 6 or 7 Intermountain Cup races, the 2 NORBA races in Utah and maybe the MTB Nationals in California. I'll do a few road races inbetween and use the weekly crits and TT's for training. We'll see how it all goes. I'm more fit than I've ever been, but I haven't closed the gap to the really fast guys as much as I would like.

Brady, have you started racing any crits yet? Adam and Russ, are you guys interested in any MTB races? You should think about 5 mile pass in two weeks. Russ, you would do pretty well in the Beginner class. It is one lap and should take about 55 - 70 minutes.

What centuries are you all planning to do?

You should register for LATOJA soon. I'm definately out. I'll be worked by that time of the year. I'm planning on racing Cross this year, so I need the break.

With it staying light later now, we need to meet at Muller and ride the dirt one of these nights.

Robby, have fun running. We'll give you moral support this summer as you give it a go.

Later,

Daren

Daren,
Sounds like you are definitely busy. The crits don't start until June. Right now it is the TT. I don't know if I will get over to do them. Next month will be the uphill TT and I think I will try and do some of those, I will keep you posted.

Yesterday I road 80 miles with a group. Everyone was racing a three day race just out of Eugene, so there were only 6 of us, and I was the youngest by about 10 years. But it made it pretty fun for me. I only lost one sprint! (I had to take it to the old guys)

Have fun riding! Talk to you later.

Great posts guys. I'm down to ten days to becoming a biker again. I'm in a tapper mode for the marathon on the 6th. My training partner Dan Ritchie has really pushed me and I'm running alot faster now than I ever have. I'm hoping my bowels aren't in a running mode the day of the race. I'm going to Jill's graduation in Chicago and won't be here on the 20th of May so the 27th would be a better Sat for me for the long one. We do have tickets for Chicago-Chicago interleague game on the 20th. Should be good. talk again soon. Doug

I forgot that I registered myself, brady, adam, robbie as cat 5 gcconnection team. Robbie Garrett is going to ride with us this year as they are going to University of Wyoming Law school in the fall. Kim was doing he and Russ. Doug

Bub,

Please set me up as a contributor so I can add a post rather than keep posting comments on this one. dgc@eastontp.com.

Here's the report from last week. 3 races and lots of time in the pain cave.

Race one, RMR crit. Very nice weather, 65 and no wind. I've never raced RMR with no wind. It made for very fast racing with no chance for a group to stay away (same with the A group). I attacked once and 3 guys came up to me but we only stayed away a lap. I sat in for a number of laps recovering and then tried to make it to the front for the sprint. The group was big, 50+, just about everyone wanted to be in the top 10 out of the last corner. The last 3 laps were nuts, guys in the dirt, bumping bars, yelling... I managed a top 20 finished and was happy to walk away.

Race two, Salt Aire TT. This was my first TT. I modified my road ride with TT bars, lower stem and a very forward seat position. The position isn't comfortable, but fast. You need to ride with this position a bunch to not hurt. The TT is a 7 mile total out and back. The wind was blowing pretty good and was a tail wind out and head wind back. I made the classic first time TT'er mistake of going out too hard and then completely blowing up at about minute 9. I felt like I came to a complete stop in the head wind. I kept waiting for old women to pass me. Managed to limp in for a time of 16:37, 24.5 mph average. Even though it was very hard, I'm going back for more next week. I think with experience I can take 30 - 45 seconds off which will get me in the top 7 or 8 in the B (cat. 3) group. By the way, Sandi Perrins won in 13:48, or an average speed over 30! Dave Hardward was 3rd, about 40 seconds back. Dave told me he was spinning his 55x11 with the tailwind at about 38 mph.

Race 3, East Canyon RR. This was my first Cat. 3 road race. Perfect weather again and a big field, 60 racers. The 60 mile race has 3,000 verticle over 2 main climbs and lots of rollers. Being the non-climber that I am, my goal was to make it to the finishing climb with the main group. The first climb comes at 4 miles in. I made it to the false flat with the lead group then blew. I hooked up with 6 or 7 others and we chased for 10 minutes and finally got back on. After that, the next one and a half hours was not bad. I made it up 1/3 of the final climb before getting dropped and rode in alone to finished a solid 47th. Three guys actually sprinted by me at the finish. Way get that 44th! I'm impressed with how many fast guys there are. I know a few of the guys I finished with and there are pretty fast. We were minutes behind the leaders.

This week, I'm taking it easy in preparation for the 5-mile pass MTB race Saturday. I was 3rd last year and hope to have another good result. I'll let you know.

I'm bringing Erin home tonight. Will be good to have her back. She will be working at Easton this summer as an interm. I'm thinking of doing some lunch ride on the tandem with her. Should be fun sprinting for signs with her screaming on the back.

Aslo, if you go to Cycleutah.com, there are links to Dave Harward, Burk Swindlehurst and Ryan Barrett's blogs. They are pretty interesting.

Later,
Daren

Well guys I'm finally walking without crying. Marathons just hurt. I cramped so bad the last 5 miles my calfs are toast. I ran the half in 1 hr 52 mins and the last half in 3 hours. There was a biker riding by and I was sure wishing I was riding. We need to set our time on sat. Daren is going to ride with us. I don't care where or when. Sutt are you in? Talk to me boys. Doug
