A Double Win

A good day on the MTB for the Cottle's yesterday. Tanner won the 13 - 15 Beginner class and I won the 40+ expert. With last week's relay win, that brings our house-hold win total to 4 over the last two weeks. No wins for years, now four. Go figure.

We raced 32 miles west of Wendover. It was at pretty high elevation, but still very hot. The course had a ton of climbing and was very hard. T and I both had good days and won by wide margins. I dug very deep and was a sad looking puppy at the end. It took a good hour to be able to stand without getting dizzy. For a while I thought Tanner would have to drive home. My AT heart rate is about 160 and I averaged 159 for 2 hours and 35 minutes. I guess you could say I went hard the whole time.

With one race to go in the intermountain cup series, I'm now in 1st place on points. I guess I really need to do the last race on the 12th because it is double points. If I finish no worse than one place behind the guy in 2nd, I should win the overall. Hopefully, I can get another win. I think it is a good course for me - long, fast, hard and no long climbs.

Tanner has realized huge improvement this year. Early in the year, he could hardly ride a course like Saturday's, let alone race it. He road hard for an hour and 20 minutes and felt good. It's cool to see him become a mountain biker and that we can ride together and have fun. (He said I had to mention that he won by 20 minutes just because it's cool.)

Looks like I'll miss Brady entirely. Kind of a bummer, I was hoping to get at least one ride in with him. I guess I'll just watch him from the car at LoToJa.

We're off to go camping for 3 days. Be back Wed evening. Brady, call me Wed night about you schedule while your here.

Big Change

Well, I'm back and the results are very different after the last crazy couple of days. Robbie is firmly in the GC lead, over an hour ahead of 2nd, and it is a close battle for second. Tom B. left the tour and killed me and Bub. The climbers battle is pretty much done at this point.

I'll work out the formula for the overall winner this weekend.

Being Consistent

What I should do is copy and past the last two races. Yet again I took second. There were about 40+ people yesterday and the pace was pretty quick. I was in a good position on the last lap, but didn't have enough room to pass the last guy, so I lost by about a foot.

Sutt, Louie, or Robbie let me know if you want to go ride on that Wed., Thurs., or Friday when I am in town. It would be fun to do a ride together before Sat.

Visit

It looks like our visit will be July 25 - 31. Doug told me that there is going to be a family ride on Sat., 100 miles. Sounds great! I am excited to get to ride with everyone. Daren, sorry you won't be there. Doug and I may come down on Thurs or Fri and ride the lunch ride. Good job Robbie and Daren on your races. Can't wait to ride with you all again.

Go Floyd!

A Winning Day

Looks like today was a winning day for the family. Robbie won his class at the Echo Tri and I won my class at the Snowbird MTB race. This is my 1st win of an expert XC and of any race for a long time. There were only 3 in my class today, but hey, a win's a win. The Snowbird course if very hard. There is only about 5 mins of descending per lap. All the climbing is very steep, so the last lap was very difficult for me. I'm trashed tonight. Brady, your win is coming. It's time for a break-through.

No real chanbe in the fantasy tour, although kind of a strange day. Probably a good move for Landis to give up the jersey for a few days. I'm out of town Mon - Wed, so I'm not sure I'll have internet access. If I don't I'll update the standings when I'm back.

Stage 12

Well Doug and Brady used their 2nd reserve with Salvo now out. Their replacements helped both of them. Popo's win helped close the gap to Robbie for a few of us.

I'm racing at Snowbird tomorrow. It is a very difficult course. If I feel good, I should do well. However, with bad legs, it could get ugly fast. We'll see.

Good luck Robbie at your Tri-geek race.

The Real Race is ON!

George Hincapie has become a climber. Chris Horner will be with Evans in the mountains. After the TT, Levi is done. Oscar Pereiro will fight for the climbers jersey. Discovery has 4 guys that can win the tour. Iban Mayo will contend this year. Daren can climb with Chris Bingham on the lunch ride. These are a few of the myths that were destroyed today.

Robbie had the vision to not pick George and he is firmly in the lead. It will take a big come back from George to boot Robbie out.

Here's where we stand:

Group Ride?

It looks like we are going to be in Utah for a few days at the end of July. Is there anyone interested in doing a group ride July 29? Let me know.

Yet Again!

It seems I keep coming up short. Yet again I finished 2nd. The person running the crit made a mistake. At three laps to go a guy took off being a rabbit for his teammate. He got a good lead on the lap. As we crossed lap three I noticed the sign said one lap left and this guy had a pretty big lead. Myself and another guy tried to catch him. I got close. I lost by about three feet. It seems I am destined for 2nd place. Maybee next time.

Daren thanks for adding the scores for the Tour. Hope you did well on your races. We might be coming up soon, I will keep you posted. Go Floyd!

Stage 7

Big changes today. We are starting to get some separation. Everyone has Levi on their team, so we suffered equally. Adam lost Julich but his replacement is Cadel Evans, so he actually improved (but not enough to escape last place). Russ is in the lead and will probably stay there until the mountains and Dave Z. gets dropped. Kim made a recovery with Lang's strong TT. Lang maybe the surprise of the Tour if he climbs well.

Looks like the only real question on the points jersey is if Boonen makes it to Paris. If we does, Brady and I have it wrapped up with McEwen and Boonen on our teams.

Here is a picture of Liam and I after the crit on Mon. Brooke was busy chasing down Liam to get any during the race.

Stage 4

See the latest below. The green jersey is starting to take shape. Big Thor getting relegated to last and losing any points today because of "irregular" sprinting cost some of you big time. Stu O'Grady getting hurt was damaging as well. Poor Tanner has both of these guys.

With riders dropoing left and right, I think we should pick a second reserve for the GC. Accordingly, respond to this posting with your second pick. The second reserve will only be used if you have 2 GC guys go out. You need to get your pick in before the time trial. No change today in our GC standings and still no KOM points for anyone.

Monday Crit

They changed the normal Tues. night crit to Mon. this week because of the 4th. The group was a little smaller, around 25 people. I went out pretty quick and realized quickly that I was working to hard, so I tried to recover for a few minutes. Mid way through the race they were giving half points for the sprint winner. I came in second on that, only losing by half a foot.

With one km to go a quy broke off with a guy right behind him. I caught up to them and the three of us got a 15-20 yard gap. In the end it came to a sprint off. I think I took second by a few inches. Falling short yet again. I won't know for sure until the post the official results. It was fun to be out there riding.

Daren, I haven't figured out how you can add pictures, but if you want to email them to me and what you want them to say I can post it for you.

Stage 3

Some significant events today. Daren and Doug lost Valverde and had to go to their reserves. For those that have McEwen, the loss of his lead out man, Fast Freddy, will hurt McEwen's chances to win stages. Still no KOM points for anyone. We probably won't have any points for some time.

Kim went from 1st to last on GC today, Lang had a difficult day. Daren and Brady now lead the Green Jersey comp (as it should be). Shouldn't be much change tomorrow on GC unless more crashes take out people. The sprinters should have a good day tomorrow. The time trial is looming and will cause the first big shake up.
